Crafted from solid Golden Rosewood and Boxwood this fine chess set is an excellent example of superb quality and craftsmanship. The Staunton chess pieces are carefully carved and polished from the same fine hardwoods that are used to make the cabinet. The chess men have magnets hidden within them and cling to the board which has a sheet of metal deep within the construction. The whole set is a good weight at over one kilogram which lends further to it’s overall feel of quality and distinction. This version is lacquered and polished to a medium gloss. The lacquering brings out the fine grain of the Golden Rosewood and brings a superb sense of quality and majesty to this chess set. Each of the chess pieces is housed neatly within the cabinet inside the green foam flocking. Each of the chess piece has been carefully polished and not lacquered, which is the best finish for chessmen in our opinion. This fine set features some of the nicest chessmen we have seen inside a folding set.

This fine chess set has been crafted from solid Golden Rosewood and selected Boxwood. It has a fine polished lacquer finish which brings out the superb wood grain and brings a lovely deep colour to the wood. Inside are solid Staunton Chessmen with magnets inside them. They cling to the chess board with just the right amount of pull to keep them steady yet allow a seamless game of chess. None of the magnetic or metal parts are visible of course, it’s outward appearance is of a 100% solid wood construction. This fine chess set is a great size for portability yet still large enough for a good game of chess. The solid hardwood construction means it weighs in at a healthy 600 grams. It feels dense and heavy in the hand, the lacquered finish adding to it’s sense of quality and distinction.
